Hi all
A further update on progress.
just measured sun noise on the system of 7dB, this is including the relay and all cables, as will be used for real.
This seems a tad shy of optimum, based on numbers plugged into 'rumore lune e sol' spreadsheet, suggesting a total system nf of about 1.4dB assuming sf of 68?
Does this sound close? It is also shy of the VK3UM figures a bit too..
If I am correct, it is not perfect but I should be able to hear a station running 40W to a 4m dish according to my calcs
Will try ground to sky Y factor next.. not sure what I expect yet .. not done any sums!
Some setbacks but still just about on track
2 powersupply options have failed on me, one most spectacularly. One of the positioners failed, lost an hour fixing that, and only just caught the sun today before it set behind houses.
left with a really huge mains operated linear PSU
I now have to be away for the entire week before the contest , leaving me with this weekend to get the TX amp set up.. and Saturday for tinkering and running whatever extra cables I need
Should be in a position to do listening tests sometime soon, if anyone is about when the moon is in my sky.
PA is next!!
more pictures added on my website of the feed mounted on the dish.
It must be stressed that operation here will be weather dependant!
Regards
