Call for Messages to County of Monterey Recommending 
continued use permit for Science/Telecom at Jamesburg
Parcel/Planning Reference Number:  PLN 060191Folks,I just got a call from Jeff Bullis, the owner of Jamesburg, who is meeting THIS  THURSDAY with the County of Monterey Small   Subdivision Planning Committee discussing continued use of Jamesburg as a Telecommunications facility.   It appears that Monterey County wants to use  Mr
Bullis’applications for subdividing the land as a lever to be able to
pass rulings that will terminate continued use as a telecommunications
facility.  There are people who live nearby who
are not appreciative of the beauty or functionality of the dish for
science or telecom use who appear to be  applying pressure to the county to do so.    Therefore
Jeff Bullis, the owner of Jamesburg, needs some letters of support
and/or opinion that explain to the county the continued value of
Jamesburg to science and future space communications uses.     The problem is, Jeff  needs to bring your comments to a county Meeting, in THREE DAYS, ON THURSDAY.    So TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.  GET YOUR E-MAIL MESSAGE OF SUPPORT TO JEFF and the County  BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT.    Please write an e-mail to Jeff and the County of Monterey
expressing your opinion that Jamesburg needs to have continued
permission for use as a truly magnificent instrument of communications.

Uniqueness ofJamesburg,  one of a vanishing species of 100 ft     diameter dishes.    Probably >$5 million to duplicate, and very    difficult to find suitable sites, esp in modern times.  It
fills     almost unique niches as a tool for coming NASA Lunar, and
other     Deep Space missions, including missions to Mars.
 2. Utility of Jamesburg for many science pursuits, including science education, University Satellite Communication projects.  Radio Astronomy,Amateur Radio Moonbounce, etc. 3. Jamesburg’s
role in history,covering the Apollo Era Missions, distributing world
wide the live video of moon landings, and world events such as Tienamen
Square, and Paris Peace Talks… 4.  Ability
of Jamesburg to provide employment to local people in Staff and Faculty
support positions on Site., and visiting Scientific Staff for periodic
mission support.5. The anticipated role of Jamesburg in Space Camp, and other Science Outreach programs directed and tailored for young people.Please write these letters of support ASAP.  We want to alert your planning commissioners and staff that there are extremely dedicated efforts underway, world wide,  to support and preserve Jamesburg for continued use in Science, Amateur Radio,  and in a variety of activities, and earnestly request for your planning decisions allow/support  continued use of Jamesburg in telecommunications.  If Jamesburg loses it’s  continued use in Science and telecommunications, a great scientific instrument will be forever lost.   Its
continued use is compatible with Mr.Bullis’ efforts at defining
adjoining building envelopes and subdivision of parcels of the former
ATT/COMSAT property. Please continue to permit on-going and future use of  the Jamesburg Earth Station, alongside Mr Bullis’ plans for defining building envelopes on adjacent properties.    Please,members of the committee,  contact
