Lance,  If it is of any value, I use an IC-746 on both six and two meters 
driving TE systems amps.  I use no attenuators, other than  the 250 feet of 
LDF4 required to reach the remote amps, or sequence relays.  Just plug and 
play.   I set the RF power level on the IC-746 at a level that the amp draws 
the rated current.    I do not know the spike output at those levels but in 
three years of operating in this manner, no damage has occured.
