Hi all,
I agree - I even met this problem 20 years ago with a TS 700 on 144 - I had to run it at 3 watts only to give full power on a 4CX250B. I had TVI - and one of the problems was traced to the spike that occurred BEFORE the ALC clamped the output to 3 watts - horse bolting after stable door closed. Remedy, which cured TVI in main - was to use attenuation cable between TS700 and PA - rig run at its normal 10 watts.
OK I had a tube - don't know what would have happened if I had a solid state PA - probably the same and maybe blown PA?
I have a TS2000 which I use - no sequencer - the rig has a built in set of parameters which only allow the RF to appear at the ant socket AFTER the relays have gone over. Also I believe that ALC is not used in the circuit - but even if it is then I have no problems - so far.
Better to use rig at its design power and to attenuate the it power to the PA requirement - OK not easy I know - but best solution.
cheers all.
