[Moon-net] Bird problem

Hello David

Given you never, EVER, remove or insert a slug with the arrow pointing
left or right...

Both G4ZTR and I have suffered this problem with our respective Model 43
meters. It has, historically, been cured by some disassembly of the
various parts, light burnishing (with a glass-fibre pencil) and
manipulation of the probes on either side of the slug aperture.
Or, in one famous case, simply leaving it out-of-service for a month
without a slug having been over irritated by it failing. (In this case I
think the probes must have relaxed back to their correct position).

After mine refused to work during the 432MHz PA tune up for the October
UHF contest last year I found, by accident it seems, the perfect way to
fix it.
I was so irritated that I went and spent mumblety pounds on another one.
When it arrived it had to be tested, of course. And the slugs were out
in the contest store with the 'failed' meter.
Having found the 'new' meter to be perfect in every way, I connected up
the failed meter (as you would), with the same slug and, lo and behold,
it worked just as well as it ever did. And has done ever since!
