[Moon-net] X2 or Xpol

Hi Jim,

I am new to EME also but I can tell you one thing for sure.

I started EME using M2 2MXP20's (2) and have upgraded to 4 on an H frame now. I would not trade my Xpols for anything and here's why. During most QSO's I am running differential where I may receive V and Transmit H. But this varies from day to day and sometime from hour to hour in any one of 4 combinations. I built a simple switch to select a polarity for RX and TX and set it for each QSO. My Microham Digikeyer computer interface provides the necessary TX/RX sequence delays and drives the home brew polarity switch and AMP. If you run one polarity its easy to get locked out for the day wasting your available time you have for the radio.

If I had the choice to have an H frame full of horz polarized antennas or one single Xpol'ed antenna, knowing what I know now, I would take the single Xpol antenna any day. My recommendation is to add the new antenna in V polarity and build a switch. Just don't switch the TX hot.

See you on the moon,
