[Moon-net] ARRL contest....an after thought

I missed this email, as lately I've been wandering around the globe a bit too much. Sorry.

Anyhow, going back to it, I think it is a very important subject and I like to add my 2c comment. I share the same Ben's thoughts. I understand that there are some stations that can do multiple bands at the same time or almost at the same time shifting bands quickly, but I bet there are many others that can't do that. I can't.

Now, if I would like to go and join some other station to work/assist/build experience on other bands without loosing my chances when it is the 'good' weekend for me, it would be a very good thing to have one band per weekend. That will surely foster friendship and teamwork among hams (a thing which is extremely lacking at least here) and possibly be a good moment to become mentors for newbies. I guess we could really catch many positive things by just rearranging the way we schedule our weekends now.

If we then like to call them 'contests' or 'activity weekends' that's the next step. I think that we should aim for contests, after all now we have only USA, Germany and Italy organizing EME contests in the whole globe. I guess it shouldn't be impossible to find other nations willing to organize a single band contest.

What do you folks think?

Hello guys

Aren't there enough weekends to have one for each band? I think that will be

the best solution.

I don't think ARRL is willing to change again but anyone can organize such

an event.

Hello Charlie,

I completely agree with you!

But that it is already improved. there was not before two weekends for

all the bands 2m > 10GHz. I fought for changed that. Helped by Al W5LUA

we obtained a third weekend for 2.3GHz & up in 2004. But now many people

on 13cm. Alex RW1AW solved the problem partly: it has at least three

Tranceivers which goes. And much of dishs.

It is true that it is difficult to work on several bands and some make

better dead ends to have qsos or to make initials on a band.

For this contest, I juggled by changing seven times of feed on the dish

what asked for a total of 90 min, luckily the wx was good. You missed me

because leaving the 5.7GHz 15 min too early to make then only 1 qso

between 21:30 and 23:30 on 2.3GHz! With each exchange one loses qos on a

band: there is Oms which does not make really the contest and which is

not active during all the duration. They sleep them!!!

Rule of European contest is better, but only if you work one day on

10Ghz and one day on 5.7GHz both the same weekend, weekends separated

for 13 & 23cm. And also you are classified in each band, ARRL you choice

only one.

In spite of that it was a very good contest:

13cm 30 qsos (27 for 2006)

6cm 7 qsos (5)

3cm 14 qsos (7)

They missed stations 2006 replaced by others. If all had been there....

But "with IF one could put Paris in a bottle"

Thank you with all for the qsos and my excuses with those which called

me without having answer.
