A single-yagi with no LNA? Well that is a recipe
for an alligator. One thing I have noted running
with 1x and 2x stations, is that they have
problems hearing a station that runs the same ERP
as they. Transmiting with a single yagi and
800-1000w is quite effective in Tx, since ERP is
the same whether its due to antenna gain or the
PA. But a single yagi is -6 dB for reception to
a standard 4x eme array. MY JT65 signal reports
with 125w at the antenna run from -20 to
-29. Add 6 dB and you will not hear me.

I fail to understand why, when a supreme effort
is made to go on an difficult DX-pedition, the
decision is to do away with the single most
important component? Or did they burn theirs up?
