Is there such a thing as a cheap PCI GPS system to lock a computer
clock?
Thanks

Hello David
I bought a <no-name> bare GPS RX board with serial
NMEA O/P from an e-Bay seller: £12.00.
I had some presettable low voltage regulator boards
(5v -> 3.3v) already: £2.00.
I built a cable to take power from the L/T's USB socket
and deliver 3-wire serial to the L/T, threw it all in
a bit of a plastic box and added software from CNS Systems
http://www.cnssys.com.
The USB cable I destroyed came with some sort of device
but say: £2:00.
The DB9 connectors came from the junk box and the
DB9-to-DB9 interconnect cable likewise.
Just 'cos I could, I made a turnstile outboard aerial
from an article in QST Oct 2002 by N7KKQ and removed
the built-in patch aerial from the board (replacing
it with an SMB skt).
Last weekend it was keeping the contest network on time
with 8 sats at 59 & 3D lock with Maidenhead readout as a
bonus (nice to know that you know where you are ;)
Total cost <> £20.00 and the satisfaction of having
built it yourself.
Maybe I'll do some pictures and write up an article.
Maybe...
