Hi Bill.
If you're into building, QST ran a construction article on a Satellite
Tracker Interface by WA8SME in the Sept. 05 issue that was designed
specifically for the G-5500 rotor (similar to the 5400) and the popular
NOVA tracking software. It can be adapted to be used with other rotor
systems with minor changes.
See: http://www.arrl.org/FandES/tbp/articles/2004/1102/index.html The
QST article actually has a little more detail than the info on the web.
Also see the SAEBRTrack
http://marklhammond.googlepages.com/saebrtrack which was the
inspiration for the QST article.
It's inexpensive and easy to build. The bare pc board can be purchased
from Far Circuits for $7 (See: Satellite Tracking Interface by WA8SME
http://www.farcircuits.net/control1.htm ). You can get the Basic Stamp
controller from Parallax or off eBay for $20 - $30. The four relays and
balance of components are cheap and readily available.
I'm just finishing one up for my system.
