[Moon-net] Info Needed on Tubes

Hi Doug,

I designed a cavity amplifier in 1962 that used a GL6942 (GE).
It put out 1 KW at 1030 MHz at 10% duty cycle (for IFF). The
power gain was about 10. The first amplifier used 3 adjustable
cavities but the final design had fixed length cavities and
was relatively compact.

I had the machine shop make a second set of cavity parts so
that I could try it on 1296 but the parts were lost about
20 years ago. I believe that I still have a set of the drawings.

I was concerned about cooling the tube with air on 1296 because
the tube only had about 10 horizontal cooling fins.

The design should work on 432 because the input and output
cavities were 3/4 wave long. The G1/G2 cavity was 1/2 wave long
but could be modified.

Does anybody know if the amplifier showed up on the surplus
market?

73 and Happy New Year to all.

Jerry W7QX
