Hello Charlie
I also have a 3.7m dish and expect to see between 2.2 and 2.5dB of moon
noise. I have not noticed any change between moon phases or between apogee
and perigee. With the moon more or less filling the "aperture" of the beam
even at perigee I don't think I would expect to see any change. I see around
17dB of sun noise which only very rarely increases with extreme solar
activity. Take a look at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/g4nns/G4NNSEME10G.html
for a polar plot of sun noise on my system.
I hear reasonable echoes at perigee (not so great at apogee) with my 8 or 9
watts. I am currently rebuilding the system and hope to get 20W and to
reduce the loss in the TX feed which I think may be up to 1dB. Unfortunately
my horizon is to high to work VK !
