Murphy's law struck the VA3TO QTH during the DUBUS event this weekend :(
I operated for just over 2 hours during the first leg but had some
technical problems as well as a strong birdie right at 144.045
(you know what that means) and a high noise level across the band.
Right at the beginning of the event I heard IK3MAC calling CQ so I
replied but then I had no TX power on the next exchange. After a few
minutes of investigation I discovered that my amplifier keying circuit
had failed but I was able to quickly repair it. Then I sat and listened
to Graziano working several stations like PA3EME, N5BO and XE2AT when he
was coming in strong. All of a sudden a very strong biridie showed up on
144.045 that wiped him out. Occasionally the birdie would subside but
whenever I tried to reply to Graziano the birdie would pop back up. So I
tuned up the band and heard CQs at .047, .048 and .052. I called QRZ
but then the noise level would increase. Sorry to those stations that I
tried to work but could not hear. Someone or something did not want me
to have any success this time around so I shut down the equipment and
went to bed.
Congratulations to all of the new stations that participated in the event !
