Another interesting paper on this topic (especially the applications in chapter 4):

As i understand this, they found a way to generate "low frequency" polarized waves that do not only use the spin +1 or -1 (LH/RH-circular-polarization)
state of the photon but also have an angular momentum unequal zero.
