I will probably not spend much time on the Moon this Christmas
weekend, opting to work out in the garage on the workbench instead..

I have made good progress on the 2m 8877 project in the last couple
weeks. I'm concentrating on the control panel which takes care of
providing bias, metering, HV switching, and HVPS control. I have
just about finished the metal work, and can begin wiring. Once the
panel is complete we will calibrate the meters and fully test the
G3SEK Triode Board control system.

Next will come finishing the The RF compartment and testing for HV
arcs or other wiring errors. I hope to begin renovating my used
8877's the last weekend of 2007. We might even try producing some RF
power. I'm trying to do things carefully with a lot of thought to
avoid stupid errors.

The provisional HVPS is a functional power supply for a Swan VK-III
HF Linear (2x 3-500z) which is only able to provide 1000w dc-input
(2500V at 400 MA). That should allow me to run somewhere between
600-700w output. This will be on 115vac primary mains power (I will
run a HD extension cord thru my basement and up into the "Shack's"
floor to run with the least mains variation.

Once we have the bugs worked out in the new PA running medium power
we will shift attention to getting the QRO HVPS checked out (2900v at
800-900 mA). I will have to bring in an electrician to bring 230vac
to a small load center in the shack before using the QRO HVPS so it
will probably not until springtime that full QRO will be available.

I hope to put some photos on the website this weekend for folks to
see my progress.
