Thanks to all who responded to my request for antenna separation distance.  I got a variety of answers, all of which I am sure would "work" , albeit resulting in different lobe configurations.  I learned a lot from the exercise which is the main thing. Finally I was referred to a Tonna "blurb" sheet which recommended a "distance pratique" of 0.82 metre. In the jungle which comprises my workshop I found an old "H" frame I made in 1985 for a pair of 23 element yagis for 1296.  Guess what?  The separation was 0.8 metres . Moral: consult old log/note-books before operating keyboard.
