Ciao Francesco,
no, there is no "not assisted" class, Mario I1ANP had a lot of problems in
the first edition with some logs that were ambiguous, so he decided, and I
agreed, that for the moment we would let everybody run as they like,
excepting exchanging info during the qso or actively requesting real time
skeds. He does not like the idea of having to police internet during the
contest, he prefers being on air!
Personally I will probably operate random, because I am not trying to win
but I am competing against myself, trying to better my skills and the
station's organization. And in any case I want to amuse myself and make as
many qsos as possible. Same as you. To whom, for the moment, I envy your
Linrad setup.
Lets wait for more stabilized conditions.
Ciao de Gio IK1UWL

Ciao Gio,
just a question, when you mean "For the 2nd edition of our digital contest
we will go a third way: admitting assistance in the form of self-spotting,
which is one of the customary practises of the digital world, next year's
outcome will pilot our choices for the 3rd edition. ", i understand that in
2nd Italian Digital EME Contest, there isn't a "NOT ASSISTED" class, is it
true?
If so let me say that i do not agree this choise and it seems to me that
this isn't what that we have discussed on our last
meeting.
Maybe i misunderstood and this is just a new class, inside our contest.
Please let us know.
I think that is important to maintain also for DIGITAL Contest a full "NOT
ASSISTED" Class because this could invite lot of
us to improve our RX systems, with software and hardware like LINRAD,WINRAD
and so on.
This is just my 2 cent opinion and as you know, although my preferred eme
mode still CW, i like to help to improve the activity,
taking part, when i can, on every 2 m eme contest and this independently by
mode.
On Contest i do prefer to operate on full random and in this way each qso is
fun and not routine.

Ciao Francesco,IK2DDR

2nd Italian EME Contest by ARI, May 12-13th 2007

Last years experience has shown us the difficulty of separating non-assisted
(random) from assisted operation, in some borderline cases. DUBUS is going
the way of all non-assisted. ARRL is admitting both but with big limitations
in the assistance admitted.

For the 2nd edition of our digital contest we will go a third way: admitting
assistance in the form of self-spotting, which is one of the customary
practises of the digital world, next year's outcome will pilot our choices
for the 3rd edition.

Big stations do not need it, they are beacons that can be found by sight or
ear easily, but medium and small stations would be handicapped without this
means, and they are the majority. For the same reason, between the possible
dates we have chosen one near perigee for minimum degradation, sacrificing
declination.

We mantain our traditional subdivision by antenna dimension and power so
each can compete equally to the best of his capacity.

We hope that no unethic practises will arise and that everybody will follow
the spirit of the rules and of the honour system.

Control logs from those not competing will be particularly appreciated for
cross checking and will be mentioned in the results.

Enclosed are the rules for 2007.
