[Moon-net] JT procedure

My experience on this: In practise close to -25 dB S/N marks the difference
between KV- and DS-decodes. Sometimes even lower S/N produce KV decodes,
sometimes even stronger sigs also still produce only DS-decodes.
Without call3.txt you give away some 3-4 dB "gain" of the DS mode. However,
provided that the received weak EME signal doesn't disappear over time you
can also decode very weak stations without call3.txt (i.e. without telling
the software what combinations of SM7GVF and other callsigns and grids or
reports to search for in the noise - search means: correlating this signal
form with the signal buried in the noise. The only prior knowledge is that
you know who could be there but you don't know who actually is. One can only
make correlations if one knows what one wants to correlate, hi).
So without the calls3.txt the decode needs more time as it is accrued in the
average window. Sometimes this may take 10 or more minutes. But it works.

Hi,
This first post from me is in the bit bucket? It was posted a few hours
ago...
>> Moreover, JT65 users frequently work stations that are not in the
CALL3.TXT file at all. I myself worked *many* in this way in the recent EME
contest.
Hi Joe,
At what number ((s+n)/n-something) indicated by wsjt is decoding without
call3.txt possible?
I have experienced QSO:s where decode without beforehand knowledgde
(call3.txt) was not possible. Where is the limit? Around -23?
I feel uncomfortable, maybe knowing to little about wsjt. Is the size
(number of calls) of call3.txt of any importance?
