That's the way my two 17-el yagis are wired. Each has its own SSB preamp, then the two outputs are combined into a 
quarter-wave section. Theoretically, you should not gain anything, but at least you minimize the S/N degradation due to 
the losses in the sections of cable that go to the combiner, and that caused by the combiner itself.
The two antennas work very well, and subjectively better than when they shared just one preamp after the combiner.
