And with Windows Vista just around the corner ...
and 64-bit systems becoming more common place ...
even more difficult.

I'd recommend a solution like the MicroHAM keyer ...
(which interfaces via USB and has pseudo serial ports) ...
or a W5XD multi-keyer or similar device.  These all have
easy software interfaces and do the transmitting of CW
in an external box.

Related query:
When listening to CW signals on EME and using WSJT to 
"monitor" the associated audio -- can I click on the
CW signal to have the software tell me what the dB
level is of the morse?  In my first experience with 
WSJT I was attempting to draw a conclusion about how
low of a CW signal I could decode with my ears ...
as compared to what WSJT could "see" -- and what it 
could decode in JT65B mode.
