Michael,

   a very good one is the EMU-1212M, but I don't know if it fits into your category of "not too expensive".. that is a 
thing you have to judge for yourself. It uses the AK5394A ADC converter, considered the best that the market can offer.
Can sample at 192 kHz with 24-bit resolution, claimed S/N 120 dB.
